Cinematography

The scene I have chosen is the opening pilot from Prison Break. It uses a range of camera shots, angles and movements.

The opening scene shows an extreme long shot of a bank, indicating setting and where the scene takes place. It then moves on to a long shot, sort of behind the character, in which he is seen shooting the gun. This gives the audience insight on the character and hoe he is. It could suggest he is violent. There is a medium shot from the employee's point of view taken from a low angle. This could be to show the man as powerful. An over the shoulder shot is used in which the man can be seen pointing the gun at the employee and demanding for money. There are many close-ups used in this opening clip and this could be for the audience to grow an attachment to the character. The audience realises a bank robbery is happening. The close-up on the woman could be to show her fear in the situation. When the police have arrived, there is a big close-up on the main character as he turns around because he is caught. The close-up is used because it highlights and raises the question of why he is smiling when he is caught. The audience could then guess part of the narrative which is to be caught and arrested on purpose.

In this still, two characters are seen and it is kind of from behind one character. With the almost low angle it establishes an emotional connection between the two characters. The low angle could also show Michael as powerful . The medium shot is used to show the setting as well. The audience realises it is a prison because of the fence in-between them.
